The Management of the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University in Katsina State says it has ‘expelled’ a large number of snakes from within the institution’s environment.

This comes days after a viral video surfaced of some snake catchers pulling out a huge python from a gutter within the school’s premises. According to a statement released by the university, the measure became imperative as the school located on the outskirts of Katsina metropolis and situated around a bush environment has witnessed several snake-related incidents in the recent past. The statement also said not too long ago, a female undergraduate, walking within the school premises at night was bitten by a snake. She was treated, applying both orthodox and traditional methods, but she died days later. The statement which further attributed the invasion of the snakes may not be unconnected with the months of the closure of the school last year, due to the COVID-19 virus.
