In a shocking turn of events, Nigerian police have apprehended the outspoken social media critic Martin Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, at his Abuja residence this past Sunday.
The specifics behind Otse's arrest remain undisclosed, but his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has confirmed that the detention is connected to a recent exposé he published on X.com.
Adeyanju reveals that Otse was arrested on the orders of CP Igwe for allegedly defaming an individual accused of scamming a Nigerian citizen abroad. He stated, “Our client, #thatverydarkman, has been arrested by the police on CP Igwe’s instructions for exposing someone who allegedly duped a Nigerian overseas.”
Adeyanju further criticized the police action, saying, “Instead of arresting the person accused of the scam, they have detained VDM on defamation charges.”
