Renowned Nigerian rapper and social commentator, Eedris Abdulkareem, has unveiled a compelling new track titled "Tell Your Papa," in which he delivers a pointed critique of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his son, Seyi Tinubu. The song serves as a stark commentary on the prevailing economic hardships and insecurity confronting Nigerians.
In "Tell Your Papa," Abdulkareem directly addresses Seyi Tinubu, urging him to convey the populace's suffering to his father, the President. The lyrics poignantly highlight the escalating challenges faced by ordinary citizens, emphasizing the severity of the nation's current state. Abdulkareem laments, "Seyi, tell your papa, country hard. Tell your papa, people dey die. Tell your papa this one don pass jagajaga," referencing his earlier protest anthem "Jaga Jaga" that spotlighted societal issues in Nigeria.
The rapper further critiques the administration's unfulfilled promises, asserting that the populace is weary of assurances that have yet to materialize into tangible improvements. He challenges Seyi Tinubu's understanding of the common man's plight, pointing out the disparity between the ruling class's lifestyle and the daily struggles of average Nigerians. Abdulkareem dares Seyi to experience the nation's roads firsthand, suggesting a disconnect due to his reliance on private air travel.
This release is not Abdulkareem's first foray into political commentary through music. In June 2024, he released "Emi Lokan," a track that criticized President Tinubu and other prominent figures, including Pastor Enoch Adeboye, for their roles and perceived inactions amidst Nigeria's socio-economic challenges. The phrase "Emi Lokan," meaning "It's my turn" in Yoruba, was notably used by President Tinubu during his campaign, which Abdulkareem repurposed to underscore the ensuing hardships, suggesting it has become "Ebi Lokan" or "It's hunger's turn."
"Tell Your Papa" has ignited discussions across social media platforms, resonating with many Nigerians who share the artist's sentiments. Abdulkareem's unabashed approach in addressing national issues through his music continues to solidify his reputation as a vocal advocate for societal change.
As the nation grapples with economic and security challenges, voices like Abdulkareem's play a pivotal role in amplifying the concerns of the citizenry, urging leadership to take decisive action in alleviating the hardships faced by the populace.
