Empowering Girls: Oyo First Lady Champions Menstrual Hygiene

These headlines capture the essence of the event and the key message from the Oyo State Governor's wife, emphasizing the importance of menstrual hygiene and girl child empowerment.


The wife of the Oyo State Governor, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde has called for a hygienic menstrual practices among girl children.

The call came during the 2025 Menstrual Hygiene Day Event held at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan today with some selected female students from across the six-geopolitical zones of the state.

Makinde who stressed the importance of a hygienic menstrual practices, called girl children to improve their menstruation practices while they carry with them soft paper, or tissue to use for an emergency menstrual flow.


Speaking, the Oyo State Commissioner For Education, Hon. Segun Olayiwola who said lack of information promotes misconception, and discrimination through socio-cultural traditions and practices, said the present administration in the state will continue to work towards achieving a period friendly world by 2030.


In their goodwill messages, Commissioners for Health, and Women Affairs, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetumobi, Mrs Toyin Balogun and Member representing Ogbomosho North State Constituency, Hon. Olubisi Ranti-Michael urged parents and other education stakeholders to give support to the development of female children for a healthy socio-economic competition.

The event included lectures, games, entertainment, gifts and free pads presentation among others, while the students lauded the organizers of the event, which they say will keep them updated for lifetime.
