Osun PDP Dismisses Defections, Asserts Adeleke's 2026 Re-Election Bid Remains Strong

The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has downplayed recent defections of its members to the All Progressives Congress (APC), asserting that these moves will not impede Governor Ademola Adeleke's prospects for re-election in 2026.

PDP State Chairman, Sunday Bisi, described the defections as "a storm in a teacup," emphasizing that the majority of Osun residents continue to support Adeleke's administration. He highlighted the governor's achievements in infrastructure, education, and healthcare as key factors bolstering public confidence.

Addressing rumors about Adeleke's potential defection to the APC, the governor's spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, categorically denied such claims, labeling them as "fake news" and attributing them to opposition attempts to destabilize the state's political climate.

Despite the APC's reception of former PDP figures like Prince Dotun Babayemi and Shuaib Oyedokun, the PDP maintains that these defections are inconsequential. Senator Lere Oyewumi noted that many APC members have also defected to the PDP, drawn by Adeleke's performance in office.

The PDP remains confident in its position, citing Adeleke's high approval ratings and the party's commitment to addressing the needs of Osun's citizens as indicators of continued electoral success.
