2026 Governorship: Oyetola Declares He Won’t Contest, Pledges Full Support to Osun APC’s New Leadership

In a significant political development that may reshape the dynamics of Osun State’s 2026 governorship race, former governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, *Adegboyega Oyetola*, has officially announced that he will *not be contesting* the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Osun State.

Speaking at a strategic *All Progressives Congress (APC)* stakeholders' meeting held in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyetola assured party loyalists that while he may not be returning to the ballot, he remains fully committed to strengthening the party and ensuring victory for APC in future elections.

> “I’m not running for office in 2026. I’ve served as governor and by the grace of God, I’m serving Nigeria at the federal level. My focus now is on party consolidation and supporting whoever emerges as our candidate,” Oyetola stated.

This declaration comes amid growing speculation over his political ambition following the party’s defeat in the 2022 Osun governorship election, which saw *Governor Ademola Adeleke of the PDP* reclaim the seat.

The minister also used the platform to urge unity within the Osun APC, calling on party leaders and youth members to *prioritize reconciliation, loyalty, and collective progress* over personal ambition. His decision has been widely interpreted as a tactical move to foster internal peace and avoid polarizing the party ahead of critical elections.

Political analysts suggest that Oyetola’s exit from the 2026 race may pave the way for *younger aspirants* within the APC, while also opening doors for strategic alliances that may redefine the party’s chances against the ruling PDP in the state.
