…As South-West PDP Leaders Reaffirm Loyalty and Unity
Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has dismissed concerns over the formation of a new political coalition, stating that it poses no threat to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he described as a strong and united institution in the South-West. Speaking after a South-West PDP Caucus meeting held at the Hon. Soji Adagunodo PDP Secretariat in Ibadan, Governor Makinde emphasized that responsible leaders remain in the party to address challenges, not abandon it. He reaffirmed the PDP’s resilience, noting that the party has mechanisms to resolve internal issues and emerge stronger.
Governor Makinde questioned the credibility of those behind the emerging coalition, describing them as recycled politicians switching platforms without offering real change. He likened the PDP to a house with a leaking roof—one that true leaders should repair, not desert. The governor reiterated that the party remains the only credible political alternative and will continue to attract like-minded Nigerians seeking to rescue the country from the grip of the ruling APC. His remarks were contained in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju.
The PDP South-West Caucus, in a communiqué issued after the meeting, reaffirmed its loyalty to the party and distanced itself from the coalition. It commended Governors Makinde and Adeleke, along with other regional leaders, for their steadfast leadership and efforts to stabilize and grow the PDP. The Caucus pledged support for the upcoming by-elections in Oyo and Ogun states and the Lagos LG elections, while also demanding the immediate release of Osun’s withheld LG allocations. It decried worsening insecurity and economic hardship under the APC and expressed confidence in the PDP’s ability to lead Nigeria towards recovery. Key leaders present included Amb. Taofeek Arapaja, Dr. Eddy Olafeso, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, and Barr. Kamorudeen Ajisafe.
