Lagos Honours Legends: Olamide, KSA, 9ice, Tony Tetuila Among Icons Immortalized With Street Renaming in Bariga
Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA), under the leadership of outgoing Chairman Barrister Kolade David Alabi, has officially immortalized some of Nigeria’s most prominent cultural and entertainment figures by renaming major roads and landmarks in their honour.
In a move that has sparked conversations across social and traditional media, Charley Boy Bus Stop, a popular landmark within Bariga LCDA, has now been officially renamed Olamide Baddo Bus Stop in recognition of the massive contribution of the award-winning rapper Olamide Adedeji—popularly known as Baddo—to the growth of Nigerian music and global cultural influence.
This is part of a wider renaming initiative by the LCDA aimed at recognizing icons who have significantly put Bariga, Lagos, and Nigeria at large on the global map.
Below is the full list of newly renamed roads and streets across the Bariga LCDA:
Charley Boy Bus Stop → Olamide Baddo Bus Stop
Ajidagan Street → Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street
Ilaje Road → King Sunny Ade (KSA) Road
Ifeanyi Street → Abolore Akande (9ice) Street
Ayodele Street, Ladi-Lak → Tony Tetuila Street
Ilojo Crescent, Obanikoro → Bukayo Saka Street (the young Nigerian-born Arsenal FC star)
Bariga Road → Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way (after Nigeria’s current President)
Community Road, Akoka → Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Road (current Governor of Lagos State)
Barrister Kolade Alabi, who is rounding off his tenure, stated during the unveiling ceremony that these changes were not arbitrary but a deliberate effort to document and celebrate the legacy of those who have shaped Bariga’s identity in music, sports, politics, and leadership.
> “It is important to give people their flowers while they are alive. These names reflect excellence and contributions that continue to inspire the younger generation. Bariga is a land of talents and legends,” he said.
The renaming has been met with a mix of admiration and nostalgia, with many residents and fans of the artistes praising the gesture, especially the recognition given to Olamide, who hails from Bariga and has always credited the community for shaping his gritty, street-inspired music.
The move also sends a powerful message to emerging talents within Bariga and Lagos State at large—that homegrown success stories are valued and celebrated by their communities.
What This Means for the Community
Street naming is more than symbolic; it represents institutional memory and inspires pride among residents. This latest renaming effort places Bariga at the forefront of grassroots recognition of local heroes—a cultural blueprint other LCDAs and LGAs may soon follow.
