Ruger Breaks Silence: Claims Industry Blacklisted Him After Exit from Jonzing World

In a startling revelation that has stirred conversations across the Nigerian music scene, rising Afro-dancehall star Michael Olayinka, professionally known as *Ruger*, has claimed he was blacklisted by both music industry insiders and fans following his controversial departure from his former label, Jonzing World.

Ruger, who first gained national and international attention under the Jonzing World imprint — an affiliate of D’Prince and Mavin Records — stated during a recent interview that the fallout from his exit was far more hostile than expected. According to him, many industry gatekeepers and even fans turned their backs on him in subtle and overt ways, affecting his career momentum and public perception.

“I was blacklisted by a lot of people in the industry after leaving Jonzing World. Some fans also switched up. It was like I had committed a crime,” Ruger said.

Although the singer has since launched his own imprint, *Blown Boy Entertainment*, and released new music independently, he admitted that navigating the industry without the backing of a major label came with unexpected political hurdles.

Insiders suggest the controversy stemmed from unresolved contractual disagreements and creative differences. Despite this, Ruger remains optimistic, focusing on building his brand on his terms.

With several hits like *Bounce*, *Dior*, and *Asiwaju*, Ruger has proven himself as one of the most promising voices in the Nigerian music space. His story now serves as a cautionary tale about the complexities of label-artist relationships in the African music industry.
