Sean "Diddy" Combs will remain in federal custody after a Manhattan judge denied his bail request following his conviction on two counts of transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution. The decision comes as Combs awaits sentencing, which could result in a prison term of up to 20 years.
During the July 2, 2025, hearing, Judge Arun Subramanian rejected the defense's proposal for a $1 million bond, citing concerns over Combs' alleged involvement in violent and illegal activities during the investigation. The judge also considered a letter from Combs' ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, expressing safety concerns, as well as the prosecution's argument that Combs poses a continued threat to victims and the community.
Combs was acquitted of more serious charges, including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, which carried potential life sentences. Legal experts suggest that, given the acquittals and sentencing guidelines, Combs may receive a sentence ranging from 15 to 63 months, with the possibility of credit for time already served.
The trial, which began on May 5, 2025, included testimony from 34 witnesses over 29 days, focusing on allegations that Combs used his influence to coerce women into orchestrated sexual encounters. Despite the not-guilty verdicts on the most severe charges, the trial has significantly impacted Combs' reputation and financial standing, with over 50 civil lawsuits still pending against him.
Combs has been in custody since his arrest in September 2024 and is currently held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. Sentencing is tentatively scheduled for October 3, 2025.
