INEC Deploys 2,062 Officials and 574 BVAS Machines for Ibadan North Bye-Election

As the Ibadan North Federal Constituency prepares for its bye-election on Saturday, August 16, 2025, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has intensified its logistical efforts to ensure a smooth electoral process.
Deployment of Non-Sensitive Materials and Personnel
INEC has commenced the distribution of non-sensitive electoral materials across the 12 wards comprising 512 polling units in the constituency. To facilitate the election, the commission is deploying 2,062 poll officials and 574 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines, including 48 backup units, to ensure efficient voter accreditation and result transmission.

Voter Statistics and Participation
Out of 272,196 registered voters in the constituency, approximately 217,980 have collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and are eligible to vote. INEC has emphasized that there will be no further PVC collection before the election, urging all eligible voters to participate actively.

Political Parties and Candidates
A total of 19 political parties are contesting in the bye-election. Notable candidates include Oyekunle Fola Sunday of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Hammed Badmus of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Akin Alamu Dexter Femi of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Olatunji Haastrup Adewale of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Odususi Olajumoke Olabisi of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Security and Stakeholder Engagement 
INEC, in collaboration with security agencies and community leaders, has conducted peace accords and stakeholder meetings to promote a peaceful election environment. The commission has also engaged with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and traditional institutions to sensitize the public on the importance of a violence-free election.

Logistics and Transportation 
To ensure timely delivery of materials and personnel, INEC has partnered with the state's transport unions, formalizing agreements to provide adequate vehicles for election day logistics. This collaboration aims to facilitate the smooth movement of officials and materials to and from polling units.

As the election day approaches, INEC reiterates its commitment to conducting a transparent, credible, and peaceful bye-election in Ibadan North Federal Constituency.
