In a decisive move to restore order and strengthen peace within the Akinyele Peppers, Farmers Market Traders Association, the Executive Chairman of Akinyele Local Government, Hon. Akinwole Akinleye, today inaugurated a Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the market. The inauguration ceremony, held in the presence of key stakeholders, members of the Akinyele LG management team, and representatives of security agencies, signaled a new chapter for the market community. The intervention followed a prolonged leadership crisis between two factions within the market association, a development that had posed serious threats to peace and security across the local government area.

The formation of the Caretaker Committee was the outcome of a crucial peace meeting convened by the Commissioner of Police on Monday, 9th February, 2026. At the meeting, it was unanimously agreed that the executive committees of the two contending factions be dissolved with immediate effect to prevent further escalation of tensions. The resolution also mandated the immediate establishment of a neutral caretaker body to stabilize the situation and oversee market operations pending a lasting resolution. This strategic decision underscored the commitment of both government and security authorities to maintaining law and order.

The newly inaugurated Caretaker Committee is chaired by Mr. Oyeniran Kunle, with Mr. Hamid Oladimeji Saka serving as Secretary. Other members include Hon. Hassan Mohammed, Alhaji Musa Yaro, Mr. Bashiru Aransi, Mr. Ibrahim Babangida, Mr. Wahab Temitayo, and other respected stakeholders. The composition of the committee reflects a blend of experience, neutrality, and representation aimed at fostering inclusiveness and restoring confidence among traders and market leaders.

Commending the initiative, the Oyo State Babaloja General, Alhaji YK Abbas, lauded Hon. Akinleye for his proactive leadership and timely intervention. He described the step as courageous and necessary, urging all market stakeholders to cooperate fully with the newly constituted committee in order to sustain peace and harmony within the market and its environs. According to him, unity and collaboration remain the bedrock of progress in any thriving commercial hub.

Representing the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, DCP Salaudeen Isiaka charged the Caretaker Committee to commence work immediately and carry out its mandate with diligence and fairness. He emphasized that the arrangement was essential to forestall any breakdown of law and order and assured that security agencies would provide necessary support. Reiterating the commitment of the police to safeguarding lives and property, he warned that anyone who attempts to undermine the peace agreement would face the full wrath of the law. The inauguration stands as a testament to the resolve of the Akinyele LG administration under the Executive Chairman Hon Akinwole Akinleye to prioritize security, stability, and sustainable development within his jurisdiction.
