Fresh cracks have reportedly emerged within the Accord Party in Oyo State following mounting tensions surrounding the political activities of popular broadcaster and governorship hopeful, Oriyomi Hamzat, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Sources within the party revealed that some governorship aspirants and loyalists have now moved to appease aggrieved party executives, allegedly pleading for forgiveness on behalf of Hamzat as disagreements continue to deepen within the party structure.
The latest development comes barely months after Hamzat, the founder of Agidigbo FM, formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 Oyo governorship election under the Accord Party platform — a move that significantly altered the political atmosphere in the state.
Political observers say Hamzat’s entry into partisan politics generated excitement among his supporters but also triggered unease among some longstanding party stakeholders and aspirants who believe the sudden rise of his political influence could destabilize the internal balance within the party.
According to insiders, tension escalated after allegations emerged that certain actions and comments linked to Hamzat’s camp were interpreted by some party executives as disrespectful to the existing leadership structure of the party in Oyo State. Although details of the alleged disagreements remain sketchy, multiple sources claimed that consultations and peace meetings have intensified in recent days to prevent a total breakdown within the party.
Some aspirants, believed to be worried about the possible consequences of a divided opposition ahead of 2027, were said to have personally intervened by appealing to members of the party’s executive council to sheath their swords and embrace reconciliation.
The development has further fueled speculation about an ongoing power struggle within the Accord Party as more political heavyweights continue to signal interest in the party’s governorship ticket. Recently, former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, also joined the race for the Accord governorship ticket, intensifying competition within the party.
Hamzat, widely known for his strong grassroots appeal through Agidigbo FM and humanitarian interventions across Oyo State, officially declared his governorship ambition in January 2026 during a major rally in Ibadan. During the declaration, he described his political journey as a “divine calling” and vowed to provide people-oriented leadership if elected governor.
In May 2026, the broadcaster further strengthened his political ambition by picking up the Accord Party’s expression of interest and nomination forms at the party secretariat in Yemetu, Ibadan, where he was received by supporters and party loyalists.
Despite the ongoing controversy, Hamzat continues to enjoy massive support from many grassroots followers, especially among young people and traders who admire his populist style, humanitarian outreach, and frequent interventions in social issues affecting ordinary residents of Oyo State.
However, political analysts believe the emerging crisis within the Accord Party could become a major test of the party’s internal stability as preparations for the 2027 elections gradually gather momentum.
Observers also warn that if the party leadership fails to quickly manage the growing tensions, the disagreement could weaken the party’s chances against larger political structures already positioning themselves for the next governorship battle in Oyo State.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Hamzat nor the official leadership of the Accord Party in Oyo State had publicly reacted to the reports of reconciliation efforts and internal disagreements rocking the party.
