As Nigerians reflect on significant milestones in our democratic history, June 9 stands out as a remarkable date that reminds us of the strength, resilience, and evolution of our democratic institutions.
On June 9, 2015, Nigeria inaugurated the 8th National Assembly, one of the most eventful and consequential legislative assemblies in the nation's democratic era. The day witnessed the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President and Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara as Speaker of the House of Representatives, a development that reshaped political alignments and reaffirmed the independence of the legislature as a critical arm of government.
Today, as we remember this historic event, we are reminded that democracy thrives when leaders are guided by courage, service, accountability, and an unwavering commitment to the people. The National Assembly remains a symbol of the people's voice, where policies are debated, laws are enacted, and the aspirations of millions of Nigerians are represented.
For us in Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency, this reflection offers an opportunity to recommit ourselves to the ideals of purposeful representation, responsive leadership, and sustainable development. Our people deserve leaders who understand their challenges, advocate for their interests, and work tirelessly to attract meaningful opportunities that improve lives.
As an aspirant for the House of Representatives, I, Hon. Oluwatobi John Ogunbayo (OJO), draw inspiration from the democratic progress our nation has made over the years. I remain committed to a vision of inclusive governance, quality representation, youth empowerment, economic growth, educational advancement, infrastructure development, and effective constituency engagement.
The future of our constituency depends on leaders who are prepared to listen, serve, and deliver. It requires representatives who will build bridges across communities, champion people-oriented legislation, facilitate developmental projects, and ensure that the voices of Ibadan North-West and Ibadan South-West are heard clearly at the national level.
As we celebrate this important chapter in Nigeria's democratic history, let us continue to strengthen our institutions, encourage active civic participation, and support leaders who place service above self.
Together, we can build a constituency that becomes a model of progress, prosperity, and effective representation.
