Davido seems to have understood something many politicians are yet to fully appreciate: in modern Nigerian politics, influence is no longer confined to political offices.
The Afrobeats superstar appears to have developed his own unconventional way of responding to political attacks, and his recent exchanges with prominent APC figures have continued to generate conversations across social media.
With the 2026 Osun governorship election approaching, Davido has become an increasingly visible figure in the political space. He has openly backed his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, and was formally involved in the governor’s re-election campaign as chairman of the Imole Youth Campaign Mobilisation Team. Reports also confirmed that he temporarily stepped away from music to concentrate on the campaign.
That political involvement has placed him directly in the line of fire of opposition figures.
One of the most talked-about narratives involves the controversy surrounding Osun State funds and alleged account restrictions. Social-media reports have linked Davido to threats to escalate the matter to former United States President Donald Trump, with claims that President Bola Tinubu subsequently directed the EFCC to unfreeze the account. However, this particular sequence could not be independently verified from credible sources, and it should therefore be treated as an allegation rather than an established fact.
The historical record also shows why caution is necessary. In 2018, the EFCC publicly denied claims that it had frozen accounts belonging to members of the Adeleke family, including Davido, describing the reports as false.
Then came the exchanges involving Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo.
After Okpebholo was reportedly described in political banter as a “dancing governor,” Davido allegedly responded by drawing attention to the controversial WAEC result that had circulated online concerning the governor. The document, which reportedly showed several D7 grades, became a major subject of public debate. However, fact-checking reports have also warned that the controversy surrounding Okpebholo’s educational history became mixed with misinformation and unverified claims.
Another confrontation reportedly involved former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad and Davido, following comments concerning the singer's failure to win a Grammy Award. Davido's reported response was essentially that he had already achieved considerably in his career, while dismissing Ahmad's political experience. The exchange further illustrated how Davido often responds to criticism with the same public-energy approach used by his critics.
The latest political development involves Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma.
After Davido cautioned Uzodimma to embrace peace during the APC campaign in Osun, the Imo governor reportedly responded warmly, describing Davido as a son and in-law and stressing that he was coming to Osun strictly in his capacity as chairman of the APC National Campaign Council.
That appointment is not in doubt: the APC constituted a 276-member National Campaign Council for the August 15, 2026 Osun governorship election, with Uzodimma as chairman.
And perhaps that is the bigger lesson.
Davido is not fighting APC like a conventional politician. He has something political opponents cannot easily manufacture: massive popular visibility, an enormous entertainment platform and the ability to turn a political exchange into a national conversation within minutes.
Whether one supports Adeleke, APC or another political camp, it is difficult to ignore the influence Davido now commands in Osun politics.
Maybe Nigerians simply underestimated his political motion.
Because while politicians are still holding meetings, forming committees and issuing statements, Davido can drop one post and have the entire political class talking.
