Bobrisky Arrested Again! Immigration Detains Controversial Socialite Upon Return to Nigeria

Bobrisky Arrested Upon Return to Nigeria Amid Ongoing Legal Battles

Controversial Nigerian social media personality and crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has reportedly been arrested upon his return to Nigeria on April 1, 2025. The arrest occurred at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos as he arrived from an international trip. Bobrisky took to his Instagram story to inform his followers about the development, expressing confusion over the reasons behind his detention.

This incident adds to Bobrisky's recent legal troubles. In November 2024, he was apprehended by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the same airport while attempting to board a flight to London. The arrest was linked to allegations that Bobrisky had claimed to have bribed EFCC officials with ₦15 million to drop money laundering charges against him. The EFCC, denying these allegations, initiated an investigation and summoned Bobrisky for questioning, which he reportedly failed to honor, leading to his detention.

Earlier in April 2024, Bobrisky was arrested on charges of abusing the Nigerian currency, the naira. He allegedly "sprayed" banknotes at a film premiere in Lagos, a practice considered an offense as the notes can be defaced when they fall to the ground. The maximum punishment for such an offense is six months in jail, though prosecutions are rare.

In October 2024, Bobrisky was detained by the Nigeria Immigration Service at the Seme border while attempting to leave the country unnoticed. This arrest was reportedly connected to his failure to appear before the House of Representatives committee and the EFCC regarding his bribery allegations.

As of now, the specific reasons for Bobrisky's latest arrest remain unclear. Authorities have yet to release an official statement detailing the charges or circumstances surrounding his detention. This development continues to unfold, and further updates are anticipated as more information becomes available.
