"A Call to Protect the People's Mandate": Hon. Yemi Lawal Accepts Chairmanship of Imole Campaign Council's Election Surveillance and Voters Education Committee

Hon. Yemi Lawal has formally accepted his appointment as Chairman of the Election Surveillance and Voters Education Committee of the Imole Campaign Council, describing the responsibility as a solemn call to service, democratic accountability, and the protection of the people's mandate ahead of the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election.

Delivering his acceptance speech, Lawal expressed profound gratitude to the leadership of the Imole Campaign Council and the Accord Party for entrusting him with what he described as one of the most strategic assignments in the campaign structure.

He specifically acknowledged the confidence reposed in him by Governor Ademola Adeleke, the Chairman of the Campaign Council, the Director General of the Imole Campaign Council, and the entire leadership of both the campaign organization and the Accord Party. The appointment follows the recent reconstitution of the Imole Campaign Council to strengthen preparations for the forthcoming governorship election.

According to Lawal, the appointment transcends political recognition, representing a commitment to safeguarding democracy and ensuring that every eligible voter in Osun State has the opportunity to freely exercise their constitutional right.

«"This is not just an appointment. It is a call to duty, a call to service, and a call to protect the sacred mandate of the good people of Osun State."»

He noted that Osun State stands at a defining moment in its political history, stressing that the August 15 governorship election will determine whether the state continues on what he described as the path of progress, inclusion, and people-centred governance under Governor Ademola Adeleke's Imole administration or chooses a different direction.

Election Surveillance: Protecting Every Vote

Speaking on the committee's first major responsibility, Lawal said comprehensive election surveillance would be implemented across the state to ensure that every legitimate vote is protected.

He explained that the committee would recruit, train and deploy vigilant polling agents across all 332 wards and polling units spread throughout Osun State's 30 Local Government Areas. These personnel, he said, would monitor the electoral process while working within the provisions of Nigeria's electoral laws.

Lawal further disclosed that the committee intends to establish real-time monitoring and reporting mechanisms capable of identifying, documenting and reporting any attempt to undermine the credibility of the electoral process.

He also pledged close collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and community stakeholders to promote a peaceful, transparent, free and credible election in line with democratic best practices.

Voters Education: Empowering Citizens Through Information

The second pillar of the committee's assignment, according to Lawal, is extensive voter education aimed at increasing civic participation across Osun State.

He said democracy can only flourish when citizens are adequately informed about the electoral process.

To achieve this objective, the committee plans to embark on statewide sensitisation campaigns across markets, educational institutions, motor parks and community centres to educate residents on the importance of collecting their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), understanding voting procedures and participating peacefully on election day.

Lawal emphasised that no eligible voter should be disenfranchised because of inadequate information or lack of awareness.

Grassroots Mobilisation Will Be the Priority

Acknowledging the enormous responsibility attached to the assignment, Lawal maintained that elections are ultimately decided at the polling-unit level.

For this reason, he disclosed that the committee would prioritise grassroots mobilisation, paying special attention to communities and strategic voting areas where every single vote could prove decisive.

He urged members of the committee to approach the assignment with integrity, discipline, transparency and an unwavering commitment to the people of Osun State.

Addressing the youth and women, Lawal described the forthcoming election as an opportunity to shape the future of the state. He encouraged them to collect their PVCs and actively participate in the democratic process by voting peacefully.

According to him, the election represents a choice for continuity in governance, job creation, infrastructure development and the sustained implementation of the Imole agenda.

Commitment to Democratic Values

Concluding his remarks, Lawal reaffirmed his confidence in the achievements of Governor Ademola Adeleke's administration, stating that the government has demonstrated that governance can genuinely work for the people.

He accepted the nomination wholeheartedly and expressed optimism that, with God's guidance and the support of the people, the committee would successfully deliver a peaceful, transparent and victorious election for Governor Ademola Adeleke and the people of Osun State.

He concluded by praying for the continued success of the Imole Campaign Council, the Accord Party and the progress of Osun State.
