Governor Makinde Pledges Completion of Ibadan Circular Road’s East and North-East Wings to Boost Infrastructure and Economic Growth

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to completing the first phase of the Ibadan Circular Road project, encompassing the 32.2-kilometer East Wing and the 36.7-kilometer North-East Wing, extending from Badeku Village to Akinyele Local Government Area.

During a recent inspection of the project alongside former Governor and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, Governor Makinde emphasized the strategic importance of the circular road in redefining the city's boundaries and enhancing connectivity across multiple local government areas.

Project Overview and Progress

The Ibadan Circular Road is a 110-kilometer infrastructure initiative designed to encircle Ibadan, the state capital, and alleviate traffic congestion within the metropolis. The project is segmented into four sections:

South-East Wing: 32.2 kilometers

North-East Wing: 20 kilometers

North-West Wing: 33 kilometers

South-West Wing: 24 kilometers

The current administration has prioritized the completion of the East and North-East Wings. Notably, the 32.2-kilometer East Wing, connecting the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to Badeku Village on the Ibadan-Ile Ife Road, has seen significant progress, with major infrastructure components nearing completion.

Economic and Social Implications

Governor Makinde highlighted that the completion of the Ibadan Circular Road would serve as a catalyst for economic growth by improving transportation efficiency, attracting investments, and facilitating the movement of goods and people. The project is also expected to create employment opportunities and stimulate local businesses during and after construction.

Honoring Senator Rashidi Ladoja

In recognition of Senator Ladoja's contributions to the state, Governor Makinde has named the Ibadan Circular Road after him. This gesture underscores the administration's appreciation for the former governor's vision and efforts toward the state's development.

Governor Makinde's assurance to complete the initial phases of the Ibadan Circular Road project reflects his administration's dedication to infrastructural development and economic advancement in Oyo State. The project's completion is poised to transform the state's transportation landscape, enhance connectivity, and bolster economic activities across the region.
