Tinubu’s Frequent France Trips: Diplomacy or Luxury Getaways?

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to depart Abuja today for a two-week working visit to France, marking his fifth trip to the country since assuming office in May 2023. This visit underscores the strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and France.

Previous Visits to France:

1. June 2023: President Tinubu attended the Paris Summit for the New Global Financial Pact, engaging in discussions aimed at addressing global financial challenges.


2. September 2023: Following the United Nations General Assembly, he spent five days in France, participating in high-level bilateral meetings to bolster Nigeria-France relations.


3. January 2024: Embarking on a private visit, the President spent approximately two weeks in Paris, focusing on personal engagements and informal diplomatic dialogues.


4. November 2024: At the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron, President Tinubu undertook a three-day state visit, during which both leaders signed agreements to enhance cooperation in critical infrastructure development and agricultural initiatives. 



Collectively, these visits have amounted to around 24 days spent in France since the inception of his administration, reflecting a commitment to fostering international partnerships and attracting foreign investments.

Objectives of the Current Visit:

The current two-week working visit is anticipated to focus on:

Economic Partnerships: Engaging with French business leaders to attract investments in sectors such as energy, technology, and agriculture.

Security Collaboration: Discussing strategies to enhance bilateral cooperation in combating terrorism and improving regional security.
