Emir of Kano and former Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, revealed that he only grasped the true extent of poverty after ascending the throne. Speaking at a public lecture titled "Weaponization of Poverty as a Means of Underdevelopment: A Case Study of Nigeria," during Rotimi Amaechi's 60th birthday celebration in Abuja, Sanusi emphasized the deep-rooted poverty in Northern Nigeria.
He highlighted that approximately 87% of Nigeria's poverty is concentrated in the North, urging leaders to address issues like education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. Sanusi warned that without immediate action, the region risks self-destruction.
The event also saw the launch of a fundraising initiative for girl child education, surpassing its 2 million target by raising over3 million. This underscores Sanusi's commitment to addressing educational disparities and promoting development in Northern Nigeria.
