In a significant cultural event, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu lauded the coronation of Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, describing it as a divine alignment akin to his own electoral victory. The President emphasized the vital role of traditional institutions in fostering national unity and preserving cultural heritage.
Represented by the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, at the coronation ceremony held at Olivet Baptist High School in Oyo, President Tinubu conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to the new monarch. He highlighted the Alaafin's stool as a symbol of cultural pride and a unifying force within the Yoruba nation and Nigeria at large.
"Kabiyesi, your ascension to this revered throne comes at a critical time in our nation’s history. Nigeria is navigating complex challenges, and traditional institutions like the Alaafin’s stool remain vital in fostering peace, promoting cultural identity, and supporting governance," Tinubu stated.
Oba Owoade, in his address, acknowledged the divine nature of his ascension, noting that he relied solely on God's will and the support of the people, without any political affiliations or lobbying.
