Ona Ara on the Rise: Chairman Glorious Leads Major Community Uplift as Roads and Bridges Bring New Life to Abandoned Areas
Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State is fast becoming a shining example of grassroots transformation, thanks to the determined leadership of its Executive Chairman, Dr. Temitope Kolapo JP (popularly known as Glorious). With an unshakable commitment to the development mandate of Governor Seyi Makinde, the Chairman has delivered a series of life-changing infrastructure projects aimed at reconnecting communities and restoring hope to rural dwellers.
On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, the Glorious administration commissioned two major bridges/box culverts in Larodo and Eku communities, marking a significant milestone in the council’s “GLOWIN @ ONE – OMITUNTUN GLORIOUS” celebration.
The event was graced by dignitaries, schoolchildren, landlords, community leaders, and notable guests from across the state. The bridges — two out of five newly completed bridges — symbolize a new chapter for long-neglected areas like Aba Eku, Koko 1, Koko 2, Koko 3, and Ifedapo Zones 1–7, whose residents have faced decades of isolation, especially during the rainy season.
In his remarks, Dr. Kolapo Glorious highlighted that his inspiration for developmental excellence comes directly from Governor Makinde, noting that “I don’t have a choice but to deliver because our Governor is from Ona Ara and he has set a high standard for governance in Oyo State.”
The Chairman expressed appreciation for the Governor’s legacy projects in Ona Ara, including the dualization of the Olorunsogo–Ariyo Road, and revealed plans for continued infrastructural growth throughout the local government area.
One of the event’s most applauded moments was the recognition of Chief (Engr.) Jubril Dotun Sanusi, Ajia Olubadan of Ibadanland and CEO of Ilaji Hotel & Sports Resorts, whose philanthropic contributions to Ona Ara remain unmatched.
Described as a “pillar of progress,” Engr. Sanusi was applauded for:
Donating several 33KVA transformers to underserved communities, including the relocation of one from Amuloko to Akaran
Booking 300 bags of cement for concrete road work from Ariyo to Akaran
Supporting ongoing rural electrification and road enhancement efforts
Engr. Sanusi, standing in as the Special Guest of Honour, also commissioned the bridges on behalf of the Chairman, reaffirming his personal commitment to community welfare and rural transformation.
Equally pivotal to this grassroots success story is the consistent legislative support from the House Leader of Ona Ara Local Government, Hon. Femi Abolade Gabriel (popularly known as Hon. Yerima). As a grassroots mobilizer and effective legislative head, Hon. Yerima continues to champion community-centered policies, ensure oversight on council projects, and bridge the gap between elected officials and the people.
Representatives of schools such as Funmisola Group of Schools, Faith in Christ School, and Double Star Excel School joined landlords and residents in a vibrant celebration of progress. They spoke of the numerous ways the bridge will improve access to education, commerce, health services, and general mobility, especially during the rainy season.
In attendance were:
Hon. Mosobalaye Bakare – PDP Chairman, Ona Ara LGA
Hon. Ajao Waheed Adurodekun
Alfa Kehinde Adeyemo
Hon. Muftau Ogunremi – Deputy Chairman Senatorial District
All Ward Chairmen, Women Leaders, and Youth Leaders
Hon. Olagunju Oluwatoba – Hosting Councillor
All Councillors, Supervisors, and Special Assistants
The Chairman, Dr. Glorious, reiterated that this is just the beginning of "Igba Otun Ti De Ba Wa" (A New Era Has Come to Us), and promised that more developmental projects — including water systems, health centres, and economic empowerment programs — will follow swiftly.
With visionary leadership from the executive, legislative backing from leaders like Hon. Yerima, and unwavering community support from figures like Engr. Dotun Sanusi, Ona Ara is rising to become a model of effective grassroots governance in Nigeria.
