The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, as public holidays to commemorate this year's Eid-el-Kabir celebration. This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement released on Monday, June 2, 2025.
In the statement, Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended warm congratulations to the Muslim Ummah both within Nigeria and in the diaspora on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir. He emphasized the significance of the festival, urging Muslims to embody the values of peace, kindness, and sacrifice as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon Him).
The Minister also called upon all Nigerians to use this period to pray for the nation's unity, prosperity, and stability. He reiterated the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration to safeguarding the lives and property of all citizens.
Eid-el-Kabir, also known as the "Festival of Sacrifice," is one of the most significant Islamic holidays, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God's command. The festival is marked by special prayers, feasts, and acts of charity.
The declaration of these public holidays aims to allow Muslim faithful to celebrate the festival and to encourage all Nigerians to reflect on the values of sacrifice and devotion.
