President Tinubu Commissions First 30km of Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Marking Major Infrastructure Milestone

On May 25, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially commissioned the first completed 30-kilometer section of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, stretching from Ahmadu Bello Way in Victoria Island to Eleko Village in the Lekki Peninsula. This six-lane dual carriageway is designed to enhance connectivity and stimulate economic activities along Nigeria's coastline.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a 700-kilometer project intended to link Lagos to Calabar, traversing nine coastal states. The initiative aims to bolster trade, tourism, and regional integration, thereby contributing to Nigeria's economic growth.

During the commissioning ceremony, President Tinubu emphasized the project's significance, stating, "This project is more than a mere road. It is a symbol of hope, unity, and prosperity. It will connect communities, bring prosperity to people, and create opportunities for millions of our people."

The construction of this highway segment was executed by Hitech Construction Company Ltd under an Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Financing (EPC+F) arrangement. To facilitate the project, the Federal Government has disbursed over ₦15 billion in compensation to property owners affected by the construction.

Looking ahead, the Federal Government plans to implement tolling on the highway for a period of 5 to 10 years to recoup construction costs. Additionally, there are plans to develop land along the corridor for tourism, industrial, and residential purposes, further enhancing the project's economic impact.

The commissioning of this highway section represents a significant step in Nigeria's infrastructure development, promising improved transportation, economic growth, and regional connectivity.
