Northern PDP Leaders Endorse ADC as Coalition Platform for 2027 Elections Amid Internal Party Turmoil

In a significant political development ahead of Nigeria's 2027 general elections, prominent Northern leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have endorsed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the preferred platform for a proposed opposition coalition. This decision follows extensive deliberations among opposition figures seeking a unified front to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The choice of ADC over the yet-to-be-registered African Democratic Alliance (ADA) was attributed to ADC's established national presence and consistent participation in past elections. Nwosu, a governorship hopeful, emphasized that ADC's readiness and recognition across Nigeria's geopolitical zones made it a suitable vehicle for the coalition's objectives.

However, this move has not been universally accepted within the PDP. The party's national vice chairman has expressed concerns over the shift towards ADC, defending the retention of key figures like Anyanwu. Simultaneously, internal conflicts have intensified, with 11 members of the PDP's National Working Committee (NWC) rejecting the reinstatement of Samuel Anyanwu as national secretary, highlighting deep-seated divisions within the party's leadership.

Adding to the opposition's momentum, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party's 2023 Lagos State governorship candidate, has criticized President Bola Tinubu's administration, labeling it a failure due to economic hardships and security challenges. He advocates for a united opposition to prevent vote splitting in the upcoming elections, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to effect meaningful change.

As the political landscape evolves, the endorsement of ADC by Northern PDP leaders signifies a strategic realignment aimed at consolidating opposition forces. The coming months will reveal whether this coalition can navigate internal party dynamics and present a formidable challenge to the APC in 2027.
