Makinde Names Samonda GRA After Late ‘Jagaban’ Akinremi — A Heartfelt Tribute Just Ahead of Ibadan North Bye-election
In a poignant and timely gesture, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is set to officially name the Government Reserved Area (GRA) in Samonda, Ibadan North, in honor of the late Hon. Prince Musiliu Olaide Akinremi—affectionately known as “Jagaban.” This announcement, made as the Ibadan North Federal Constituency prepares for its pivotal bye-election, underscores the governor’s commitment to commemorating impactful leadership while rallying civic engagement ahead of the August 16 contest.
The ceremony, a joint effort by the Oyo State Government and the Akinremi Legacy Forum, coordinated with the Ibadan North Local Government, is scheduled for Wednesday, 13 August 2025, at 11:00 a.m. It will be held along Dominican University Road, Samonda, marking the transformation of the existing government estate into “Jagaban Estate.”
Governor Makinde’s decision not only preserves the legacy of the formidable lawmaker, who championed empowerment and unity, but also casts a symbolic vote of confidence in the constituency’s shared future, especially as they approach a crucial electoral moment.
