The Oyo State Government has launched a 4-day training program for 140 youths on farm mechanization and tractor operations. The program aims to enhance agricultural productivity and empower participants with essential skills.
The training is part of the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) program and will take place in all 33 local government areas. It's designed to create employment opportunities and boost agricultural development. The Oyo State Government has launched a 4-day training program for 140 youths on farm mechanization and tractor operations. The program, facilitated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development under the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER), aims to enhance agricultural productivity and empower participants with essential skills.
The training is designed to replace the ageing tractor workforce in the state and create sustainable pathways to meaningful employment, economic independence, and reduce youth unemployment. Participants will acquire skills in tractor operations, safety practices, daily and weekly maintenance, and servicing procedures, enhancing their employability and contributing to agricultural transformation in Oyo State.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye, said: "This programme represents far more than a skill acquisition initiative but embodies the current administration’s strategic vision for comprehensive youth empowerment and agricultural modernisation."
Permanent Secretary, Mrs Abosede Owoeye, noted: "This training will provide you with essential skills in tractor operations... These skills will enhance your employability and position you as active contributors to agricultural transformation in Oyo State."
Adelere Oluwaferanmi, a beneficiary, said: "I believe whatever a man can do, a woman can do best. So, with this training, I will be able to drive tractor and do things that I have not been doing before."
