The Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan has successfully received its first aircraft since its upgrade to international standards. On Wednesday, at 9:14 AM, an advance team of the presidency flight landed safely, paving the way for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's visit on Friday, September 26, 2025.


The President is scheduled to attend the coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja. This milestone underscores the airport's readiness to handle high-profile flights safely and efficiently. With the presidency flight scheduled to follow soon, this inaugural flight sets a positive precedent for future arrivals and departures.


Recall that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the airport upgrade in September 2024. The project aims to connect the state to the global market, enhance air travel operations, and provide a reliable transportation network for business and leisure travelers. The Makinde administration has upgraded the airport's VIP lounge, provided a fire truck, and installed a 500,000-liter aviation fuel storage and dispensing facility.
