2027 Oyo Guber Race Heats Up as Ex-Ajimobi Finance Commissioner, Bimbo Adekanmbi, Declares Ambition During Fresh FM Visit

Political conversations ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State received another major boost as former Commissioner for Finance under the administration of the late former Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, Mr. Bimbo Adekanmbi, paid a courtesy visit to Fresh FM Nigeria in Ibadan, where he openly spoke about his political aspirations and praised the media organization for its professionalism and balanced reportage.

During the visit, Adekanmbi commended the management and staff of Fresh FM for sustaining credible journalism and maintaining what he described as an unbiased approach to news dissemination in Nigeria’s highly competitive media industry. According to him, the radio station has remained one of the most influential broadcast platforms in the South-West, particularly in Oyo State, where it continues to shape public discourse through responsible programming and people-oriented content.

Addressing journalists shortly after the meeting, the former finance commissioner paid glowing tribute to the Chairman of Fresh FM Nigeria, celebrated gospel musician and broadcaster, Yinka Ayefele. Adekanmbi described Ayefele as more than just a media entrepreneur, noting that their relationship spans over two decades.

He stated that their longstanding relationship has been built on mutual respect, loyalty, and shared commitment to the development of Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole. The visit, according to political observers, further highlights the growing intersection between media influence and political engagement ahead of the 2027 electoral season in Oyo State.

In what many analysts see as a strategic political signal, Adekanmbi also officially reiterated his ambition to succeed the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde when the current governor completes his tenure. His declaration is expected to intensify conversations within the political space, especially among stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other interest groups positioning themselves ahead of the next gubernatorial contest.

Adekanmbi, who previously served as Commissioner for Finance during the Ajimobi administration, is widely recognized in political and economic circles for his role in fiscal reforms and financial management policies implemented during the late governor’s tenure. His growing visibility in recent months has fueled speculation about his readiness to fully join the race for the Agodi Government House.

Political watchers in Oyo State believe that consultations and strategic alliances are already underway among several aspirants seeking to emerge as strong contenders in the 2027 governorship election. The renewed political movements have continued to attract public attention as influential figures across the state intensify consultations with media houses, traditional institutions, grassroots leaders, and key stakeholders.

Management staff present during Adekanmbi’s visit to Fresh FM included the Group General Manager, Mr. Abolade Salami; Group Head of Commercial, Dr. Bayo Faleke; Group Head of Accounts, Mr. Samson Afolabi; Head of Corporate Affairs, Fresh FM Nigeria; Head of Administration, Mr. Peter Akintayo; respected broadcaster, Mayor Isaac Brown; and General Manager of Blast FM, Mr. Kenny Ogunmiloro.

The visit has since generated conversations within political and media circles in Ibadan, with many interpreting it as part of broader consultations and image-building efforts ahead of the highly anticipated 2027 political season in Oyo State.

As political alignments continue to evolve, Adekanmbi’s public appearance and open declaration may further reshape discussions surrounding succession politics in the state, especially within opposition and progressive political blocs preparing for what is expected to be one of the most competitive governorship elections in recent Oyo political history.
