Even With Pasuma, Small Doctor & Qdot, Nigerians Still Think Oriyomi Pulled the Real Crowd

Oriyomi’s Crowd vs Adelabu’s Concert-Style Rally: Oyo Social Media Picks Sides.

What Liberty Stadium Revealed About Oriyomi and Adelabu Is Fueling Fresh Political Debate in Oyo

The political atmosphere in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 governorship election is becoming increasingly intense, and one major topic dominating conversations across social media is the comparison between the crowd strength of popular broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat and former Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, at the historic Liberty Stadium, Ibadan.

From videos, photos, and live clips circulating online, many political observers and supporters have continued to debate who truly commands stronger grassroots loyalty in Oyo State politics. While crowd size alone does not automatically determine electoral victory, the optics from both events have generated serious conversations about influence, popularity, and political acceptance among the people.

During the “Oyo N Pe O” declaration rally held at Liberty Stadium, Oriyomi Hamzat reportedly attracted thousands of supporters from different parts of the state. The event immediately became one of the most talked-about political gatherings in recent months, with videos showing massive turnout inside and around the stadium. Reports also indicated that human and vehicular traffic around Oke-Ado increased significantly because of the large number of attendees present at the declaration.

Many analysts believe Oriyomi’s crowd strength is largely tied to the emotional connection he has built with ordinary residents over the years through his humanitarian interventions, grassroots advocacy, and influence as the founder of Agidigbo FM. The broadcaster has spent years building a loyal fan base across markets, transport unions, artisan groups, youths, and low-income communities who see him as someone closely connected to the realities of the masses.

In contrast, Bayo Adelabu’s political gathering at Liberty Stadium also attracted attention, especially with the presence of several crowd-pulling entertainers and Fuji musicians including Alabi Pasuma, Qdot, Small Doctor, Fuji Merenge, and Tiri Leather. Their performances added excitement and entertainment to the event and were expected to significantly boost attendance.

However, despite the entertainment lineup and APC’s established political structure, many social media users argued that the crowd still appeared smaller compared to what Oriyomi Hamzat reportedly pulled during his declaration rally. Several commentators online even suggested that Liberty Stadium looked “too big” for Adelabu’s supporters based on available visuals shared online.

Political observers say one major factor behind this perception may be the internal political divisions within the APC in Oyo State. Unlike a movement built around one central figure, the APC currently consists of multiple interest groups and loyalists supporting different governorship aspirants ahead of 2027. This fragmented loyalty may naturally affect crowd mobilization whenever a single aspirant holds a public gathering.

On the other hand, Oriyomi’s support appears more emotionally driven and personality-based. His supporters often describe themselves as loyal to him personally rather than to a political party. This has created a growing narrative that the broadcaster may currently enjoy more unconditional grassroots loyalty than many established politicians in the state.

Still, political history in Nigeria has shown repeatedly that crowd size at rallies does not always translate into election victory. Elections are often determined by party structures, alliances, financial strength, grassroots coordination across local governments, and voter turnout on election day.

Yet, what cannot be ignored is the growing influence of Oriyomi Hamzat in Oyo’s political landscape. Since officially declaring his governorship ambition under the Accord Party, his movement has continued to generate reactions across the state, with supporters insisting he represents a fresh alternative to traditional politics.

For now, the debate remains active across Facebook, TikTok, WhatsApp, and X, as supporters of both camps continue to push different narratives. But one thing appears certain: Liberty Stadium may have offered the first major signal of how intense the battle for the loyalty of Oyo people could become ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
