Facts Matter — INEC Portal Still Reflects Wike-Aligned PDP Exco, Not Turaki

Recent claims circulating across social media and some political platforms suggesting that the Independent National Electoral Commission, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has officially uploaded Tanimu Turaki as the recognized National Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) are clearly inconsistent with the information currently available on the commission’s official portal.

A simple verification on the official INEC website still shows the PDP leadership structure associated with the faction backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The development has once again exposed the danger of politically motivated misinformation and propaganda being pushed into the public space without proper verification.

While the PDP continues to battle internal leadership disputes, facts must remain sacred. As of now, there is no public evidence from INEC confirming that Turaki has been uploaded as the officially recognized PDP National Chairman.

In fact, multiple recent reports indicate the opposite. INEC’s records currently recognize the National Working Committee produced by the Wike-backed convention held in Abuja, where Abdulrahman Mohammed emerged as chairman alongside other executive members.

The situation became even clearer after recent judicial developments surrounding the PDP crisis. Reports from national media platforms stated that the Supreme Court voided the Ibadan convention that produced Tanimu Turaki as chairman, dealing a significant setback to the faction’s claim to the party leadership.

Even though supporters of the Turaki camp had earlier celebrated favorable lower court rulings validating the Ibadan convention, subsequent legal developments and INEC’s current records appear to have tilted institutional recognition toward the Wike-backed structure.

Across several states, including Plateau, Oyo, Lagos, and Ebonyi, factions aligned with Wike have also continued consolidating party structures through congresses and conventions recognized by their supporters as legitimate exercises.

This reality raises important questions about the ongoing narrative being promoted in certain political circles.

If INEC’s official portal still reflects the Wike-aligned exco, then claims that Turaki has already been officially recognized by the commission are, at best, premature and, at worst, deliberate misinformation aimed at influencing public perception.

Political disagreements are normal in democratic systems, especially within major opposition parties like the PDP. However, public discourse must be anchored on verifiable facts rather than emotionally driven narratives or partisan assumptions.

The PDP crisis has already created enough confusion among supporters nationwide. Spreading inaccurate claims only deepens distrust and further damages the credibility of political communication within the opposition space.

As Nigeria gradually approaches the 2027 political season, the focus should now shift toward reconciliation, institutional stability, and transparent communication with party members rather than the circulation of unverified political claims.

For now, one fact remains undeniable: the current INEC portal does not list Turaki as the officially recognized PDP National Chairman.

And in politics, especially during periods of crisis, official records always matter more than social media narratives.
