As Nigeria joins the rest of the world in commemorating Father's Day on Sunday, June 21, 2026, House of Representatives aspirant for the Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency, Hon. Oluwatobi John Ogunbayo (OJO), has extended heartfelt greetings to fathers, grandfathers, guardians, mentors, statesmen, democratic leaders, and all men whose sacrifices continue to shape families, communities, and the nation.
In a special Father's Day message, Hon. Ogunbayo described fathers as the first leaders most citizens encounter, noting that the values of responsibility, integrity, discipline, service, and accountability that sustain democracy are often first taught within the family by fathers and father figures.
According to him, Father's Day provides an opportunity not only to celebrate biological fathers but also to recognize the founding fathers of Nigeria, elder statesmen, democratic activists, community leaders, and patriots whose courage and sacrifices laid the foundation for the democratic freedoms enjoyed today.
"Today, we celebrate every father who works tirelessly to provide for his family, every mentor who guides the younger generation, every community leader who serves selflessly, and every patriot who has contributed to the growth of our democracy and nationhood. Their sacrifices continue to inspire hope and progress across Nigeria."
Hon. Ogunbayo paid tribute to Nigeria's democratic heroes who stood firm during difficult periods in the country's political history, advocating for justice, constitutional governance, electoral integrity, the rule of law, and the protection of democratic institutions.
He also acknowledged the contributions of past and present leaders who have dedicated themselves to strengthening democratic governance and national development. He specifically congratulated the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, government officials at all levels, lawmakers, traditional leaders, and public servants who continue to play vital roles in sustaining the country's democratic journey.
"Democracy thrives when leaders place service above self and when citizens actively participate in nation-building. As we celebrate Father's Day, we must also honor the fathers of our democracy whose sacrifices secured the freedoms and democratic rights we enjoy today."
The federal constituency hopeful emphasized that leadership, whether in the family or in government, requires sacrifice, vision, empathy, courage, and a commitment to the welfare of others. He noted that the values demonstrated by responsible fathers are the same values required to deliver effective representation and responsive governance.
"As an aspirant seeking the privilege to represent the good people of Ibadan North-West and Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, I remain committed to the principles of servant leadership, inclusive governance, youth empowerment, economic growth, quality education, infrastructural development, and the protection of democratic values."
Hon. Ogunbayo further urged young people to draw inspiration from the examples of responsible fathers and national leaders who have devoted their lives to service, sacrifice, and community development.
He prayed for God's continued blessings upon fathers across Nigeria, asking for strength, wisdom, good health, prosperity, and divine guidance as they continue to nurture families and contribute to national progress.
"May God bless every father, every mentor, every guardian, every statesman, and every patriot who has contributed to building a stronger Nigeria. May our democracy continue to flourish, our institutions grow stronger, and our nation achieve greater unity, peace, and prosperity."
The aspirant concluded by reaffirming his dedication to the people of Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency and his vision of providing people-oriented representation that prioritizes development, opportunity, accountability, and progress.
Happy Father's Day to all fathers, father figures, nation builders, democratic icons, and leaders of our great country. Your sacrifices, leadership, and unwavering commitment continue to strengthen our families, our democracy, and our nation.
