Group Applauds Zacch Adedeji as Oyo Secures N1.137 Trillion in New Federal Road Projects

The Good Governance Advocates (GGA) has praised the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, for what it described as his significant role in facilitating the approval of eight major federal road projects valued at N1.137 trillion for Oyo State, describing the development as one of the largest infrastructure investments ever approved for the state.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Mr. Akeem Olaleye, the group also acknowledged Dr. Adedeji's role in facilitating the construction of the Awe–Iwo Ate Road, noting that the latest approvals further reinforce his commitment to advancing critical infrastructure that supports economic growth and regional connectivity.

According to the group, the road projects, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, demonstrate the Federal Government's commitment to modernising Nigeria's road network while accelerating economic development across Oyo State and neighbouring regions. The approvals formed part of a broader N3.94 trillion package of road contracts sanctioned by the FEC for strategic infrastructure development across the country.

GGA stated that the projects were deliberately distributed across Oyo State's three senatorial districts to ensure balanced development and improved access to major commercial and agricultural corridors. The organisation noted that once completed, the roads would significantly reduce travel time, improve the movement of goods and services, facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce from rural communities to urban markets, and strengthen interstate connectivity with Kwara and Osun states.

The group further observed that the cumulative value of the newly approved federal road projects for Oyo State exceeds the total value of federal road infrastructure executed in the state during the eight-year administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing the latest approvals as unprecedented in scale and impact.

Among the flagship projects approved is the N276 billion dualisation of the Ilorin–Ogbomoso Road, a critical transport corridor linking Oyo and Kwara states and serving as a major gateway between southern and northern Nigeria.

Also approved is the N217 billion dualisation of the old alignment from Ijaye through the Federal Government College axis to Ilorin Road, including a spur to Akinmorin, a project expected to ease traffic congestion while improving access to several growing residential and commercial communities.

Another major project is the N265 billion reconstruction of the Iseyin–Eruwa–Agbesi Road, which traverses Oyo and Kwara states. The road is regarded as a strategic agricultural route that connects several farming communities and is expected to boost food distribution, rural development, and interstate commerce upon completion.

The Federal Executive Council also approved the N110 billion reconstruction of the Ogbomoso–Oko–Ilupu Road, an important highway linking Oyo and Osun states. The project is expected to improve regional mobility, facilitate trade, and enhance economic activities between the two neighbouring states.

The Good Governance Advocates described the approvals as a major milestone in Oyo State's infrastructure development agenda, expressing optimism that the projects would stimulate investment, create employment opportunities during construction, and improve the quality of life for millions of residents.

The group commended President Tinubu for prioritising strategic road infrastructure while also recognising Dr. Zacch Adedeji for his continued support in attracting federal developmental projects to Oyo State. It expressed confidence that the successful execution of the projects would strengthen the state's position as one of Nigeria's leading economic and commercial hubs while laying the foundation for sustained growth and long-term prosperity.
