Hon. Oluwatobi John Ogunbayo (OJO) Marks International Day Against Drug Abuse and Victims of Torture, Reaffirms Commitment to a Safer and More Just Society

As the global community commemorates June 26, a day designated by the United Nations as both the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking and the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, I join millions of people across the world in calling for renewed action to build a healthier, safer, and more compassionate society.

This important day serves as a reminder that the fight against drug abuse, illicit trafficking, and every form of torture is not the responsibility of governments alone. It requires the collective commitment of political leaders, security agencies, community stakeholders, parents, educators, faith-based organizations, civil society groups, and every responsible citizen.

Drug abuse continues to rob countless young people of their dreams, weaken families, fuel insecurity, and hinder sustainable development. Likewise, torture and all forms of inhumane treatment violate the dignity and fundamental rights of every human being and have no place in any democratic society founded on justice, accountability, and respect for the rule of law.

As an aspirant for the House of Representatives representing the good people of Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency, I remain committed to championing policies, legislative initiatives, and strategic partnerships that will empower our youths through quality education, vocational development, entrepreneurship, sports, innovation, and employment opportunities. Our young people deserve hope, not addiction; opportunity, not despair.

I firmly believe that prevention remains the most effective weapon against substance abuse. By investing in youth development, strengthening family values, supporting mental health awareness, and expanding access to rehabilitation and counseling services, we can significantly reduce the prevalence of drug abuse and create stronger communities.

Furthermore, every victim of torture deserves justice, healing, and protection. We must continue to strengthen institutions that uphold human rights, promote accountability, and ensure that every citizen is treated with dignity regardless of background, status, or political affiliation. A nation that respects human rights is a nation that inspires confidence, attracts investment, and secures lasting peace.

Our constituency has always been known for its resilience, industrious spirit, and commitment to excellence. Together, we can build safer neighborhoods, empower our youths with meaningful opportunities, promote responsible leadership, and create an environment where every resident can thrive free from violence, addiction, fear, and injustice.

As we observe this significant day, I urge every resident of Ibadan North-West and Ibadan South-West to become ambassadors of positive change by speaking against drug abuse, supporting victims of injustice, promoting peace, and encouraging our young people to embrace productive and purposeful living.

Together, through visionary leadership, inclusive representation, people-oriented legislation, and sustained community engagement, we can build a constituency that serves as a model of progress, security, justice, and shared prosperity.

Happy International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Happy International Day in Support of Victims of Torture.

Signed:

Hon. Oluwatobi John Ogunbayo (OJO)
Aspirant, House of Representatives
Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency

Together, Let's Build a Safer, Stronger, and More Prosperous Constituency for All.
