Tinubu to APC Leaders: ‘No One Gets Credit for an Incomplete Assignment’ as President Demands Wards and Votes for 2027
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has challenged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council to translate their political influence and grassroots mobilisation into actual votes ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Tinubu issued the charge on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he formally set the party’s campaign machinery in motion for the forthcoming election.
Addressing members of the council, the President reminded them that their previous contributions to the party’s electoral success would not be enough to guarantee recognition in the next election. He stressed that the real measure of their performance would be their ability to deliver their respective wards and secure votes for the APC.
«“No one gets credit for an incomplete assignment. Until you deliver the next election; until you deliver your wards. Until you deliver the votes, before we can say thank you, and I will thank you very much.”»
The statement underscored the importance of grassroots organisation as the APC prepares to defend its control of the presidency. Tinubu, who won the 2023 presidential election on the APC platform, is seeking a second term in 2027. The presidential election is scheduled for January 16, 2027, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The President also thanked party members for their support during the 2023 election but made it clear that the coming contest represents a fresh assignment. His message to the campaign council was therefore direct: political appointments, party positions and past achievements must ultimately translate into electoral results.
Tinubu described the inauguration as more than a ceremonial event, saying it represented a renewed commitment to the Nigerian people and the responsibility placed on the APC as the governing party.
“The APC is ready,” he declared, while describing the party as strong, united and prepared for the electoral contest ahead.
Tinubu Says Governance Will Remain His Priority
While demanding that campaign officials focus on mobilisation across their wards, local government areas and states, Tinubu also said he would not allow the 2027 campaign to distract him from his responsibilities as President.
According to reports from the inauguration, Tinubu said members of the party had advised him not to allow the rigours of electioneering to interfere with governance. He agreed with the position, stressing that Nigeria still requires his full attention.
“The responsibility of this office does not pause,” the President said, adding that the work of government would continue regardless of campaign activities.
He said he would continue to communicate directly with Nigerians while allowing members of the campaign council to coordinate mobilisation across the states and local government areas.
APC Campaign Council Takes Shape
The newly inaugurated council is chaired by Tinubu, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda serving as first and second vice-chairmen.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq were named deputy vice-chairmen, while former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari was appointed Director-General.
Other members include Femi Gbajabiamila, Hope Uzodimma, Abdullahi Ganduje, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dele Alake, among others. The council also includes directorates responsible for mobilisation, election planning and monitoring, fundraising, finance and regional coordination.
With the 2027 election approaching, Tinubu’s “incomplete assignment” message places the responsibility squarely on APC leaders and grassroots structures to demonstrate their political strength where elections are ultimately won and lost: at the polling units and wards.
For the campaign council, the message is unmistakable—past loyalty may earn appreciation, but delivering votes in 2027 will determine who gets the President’s final “thank you.”
