In a significant operation aimed at safeguarding public health, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has apprehended over 40 individuals and destroyed banned pharmaceuticals and other products valued at approximately ₦100 billion in Oyo State.
Scope of the Operation
The enforcement exercise led to the closure of over 11,000 drug shops across major markets, including Idumota in Lagos, Ariaria in Aba, and the Bridge Market in Onitsha. The agency seized more than 77 truckloads of substandard drugs: 27 from Idumota, 30 from Onitsha, and over 20 from Aba.
Destruction of Seized Products
The confiscated items were destroyed at the Moniya dumpsite in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State. The products included expired, falsified, controlled, unregistered, and banned medicines removed from open drug markets.
