David Alaba Receives Hero’s Welcome at New Afrika Shrine During Cultural Visit to Nigeria

Real Madrid defender David Alaba was met with an enthusiastic reception during his recent visit to the New Afrika Shrine in Ikeja, Lagos. The Austrian international, who has Nigerian heritage through his father, Prince George Alaba of Ogun State, was warmly welcomed by fans and cultural enthusiasts at the iconic venue, renowned for its celebration of Afrobeat music and Nigerian culture.

Alaba's visit to the New Afrika Shrine, managed by Femi Kuti and Yeni Anikulapo-Kuti, underscores his deep connection to his Nigerian roots. The Shrine, a successor to the original Afrika Shrine established by Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, serves as a hub for music, art, and cultural discourse in Lagos.
Beyond his cultural engagements, Alaba has demonstrated a commitment to philanthropic efforts in Nigeria. In 2022, through the David Alaba Foundation, he funded the construction of a biodegradable toilet facility in Ogere Remo, Ogun State, aiming to support the Nigerian government's initiative to end open defecation by 2025 . The facility was inaugurated with the support of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) and the Federal Ministry of Water Resources.

Alaba's contributions have been recognized at the highest levels. In June 2023, during an engagement with the Nigerian diaspora in Paris, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commended Alaba's philanthropic endeavors and invited him to invest further in Nigeria, highlighting the country's commitment to creating a conducive environment for diaspora investments.

Alaba's visit to the New Afrika Shrine not only celebrates his heritage but also reinforces the importance of cultural identity and giving back to one's roots. His actions continue to inspire many within the Nigerian diaspora and beyond.
