Dual US-German Citizen Charged with Attempted Firebombing of US Embassy in Tel Aviv

A dual U.S.-German citizen, Joseph Neumeyer, 28, has been arrested and charged with attempting to attack the U.S. Embassy branch office in Tel Aviv, Israel, using Molotov cocktails. The incident occurred on May 19, 2025, amid heightened tensions in the region.

According to federal prosecutors, Neumeyer approached the embassy with a backpack containing three Molotov cocktails. After a confrontation with a security guard, he fled the scene, abandoning the backpack. Israeli authorities apprehended him at a nearby hotel. Subsequently, Neumeyer was deported to the United States and arrested upon arrival at JFK Airport in New York on May 24. He appeared before a federal judge in Brooklyn the following day, facing charges related to the attempted attack.

Investigations revealed that Neumeyer had posted threatening messages on social media prior to the incident, including anti-American rhetoric and calls for violence. He had traveled from the U.S. to Canada in February and arrived in Israel in late April.

If convicted, Neumeyer faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
