The Nigerian gospel music community bid a heartfelt farewell to renowned gospel artiste and minister, Bolaji Olanrewaju—affectionately known as Big Bolaji—who was laid to rest in Ibadan, Oyo State, following his passing on April 19, 2025, at the age of 50.
The final rites commenced on Wednesday, May 28, with a solemn funeral service and lying-in-state at the Hall of Grace, Jogor Centre, Ibadan. The event drew a multitude of mourners, including family members, close friends, fellow gospel artists, and admirers who gathered to honor the life and legacy of the esteemed music minister.
Born Bolaji Adedotun Olanrewaju, Big Bolaji was a certified estate surveyor who heeded a higher calling to serve as a full-time gospel minister. He was converted and nurtured in faith at The Sword of the Spirit Ministries under the mentorship of Bishop Francis Wale Oke and later became an ordained minister with the Redeemed Christian Church of God, where he served diligently for over 19 years.
Big Bolaji's musical journey was deeply influenced by his late mother, Rev. Mrs. Sola Olanrewaju, who instilled in him a passion for the arts. His unique blend of humor and heartfelt worship resonated with audiences across Nigeria and beyond, making him a beloved figure in gospel music circles.
In addition to his musical endeavors, Big Bolaji was the visionary behind "Turn It Up with Big B," a radio program that combined music, interviews, and inspirational messages, further extending his ministry's reach.
