Former Environment Minister Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi Resigns from APC Amid Internal Party Tensions

Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi, Nigeria's former Minister of Environment under President Muhammadu Buhari, has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a letter dated June 1, 2025, addressed to the APC chairman of his Uke ward in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi cited personal reasons for his departure.

Abdullahi's resignation adds to the growing list of high-profile exits from the APC, reflecting internal party tensions. Notably, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai resigned from the APC in March 2025, citing the party's deviation from its founding principles. El-Rufai subsequently joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP), expressing concerns over the APC's current trajectory.

The APC has been grappling with internal challenges, including the resignation of its National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, in July 2023. Adamu's departure was reportedly to avoid potential humiliation amid party disputes.

Abdullahi's exit underscores the ongoing realignments within Nigeria's political landscape as the 2027 general elections approach. His decision reflects broader concerns among party members about the APC's direction and internal cohesion.
