Soyinka Commends Amaechi’s Defiance in 2022 APC Primaries: “He Gave Tinubu a Dose of His Own Medicine”.

Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka has lauded former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, for his unwavering stance during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primaries in 2022. Speaking at Amaechi’s 60th birthday celebration in Abuja, Soyinka highlighted Amaechi’s refusal to step down for Bola Tinubu as a testament to his courage and political integrity.

“The main reason why I had to be here today—it’s first of all that I admire Rotimi Amaechi’s fighting spirit,” Soyinka remarked, recalling his experience watching the primaries live from Abu Dhabi. He emphasized that Amaechi's decision to remain in the race, despite immense pressure, was a significant display of character.

In the 2022 APC presidential primaries, Bola Tinubu emerged victorious with 1,271 votes, while Amaechi secured 316 votes, placing second. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo followed with 235 votes.

Soyinka’s commendation underscores the importance of steadfastness in political contests, highlighting Amaechi’s commitment to his principles and the democratic process.
