Israeli Forces Kill 32 Palestinians Near Gaza Aid Site Amid Mounting Civilian Casualties

On July 19, 2025, at least 32 Palestinians were killed by Israeli military fire near an aid distribution site in southern Gaza, according to the Gaza Health Ministry and Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. Witnesses reported that Israeli troops opened fire without warning as civilians approached the area to receive food aid.

The incident occurred near facilities operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a U.S.- and Israeli-backed organization established to distribute aid independently of Hamas. The GHF stated that the fatalities happened hours before their site opened and at a distance from their distribution point.

This tragedy is part of a broader pattern of violence near aid distribution sites in Gaza. The United Nations has reported at least 875 deaths near such locations over the past six weeks, primarily due to gunfire attributed by locals to the Israeli military. The UN has criticized the GHF for lacking neutrality and for using private security contractors, which they argue violates humanitarian principles.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, with over 2 million people facing catastrophic conditions. The conflict, which escalated following Hamas' October 2023 attack on Israel, has resulted in approximately 58,000 Palestinian deaths, mostly civilians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Ceasefire talks in Qatar remain stalled, offering little hope for immediate relief.

The international community has expressed concern over the rising civilian toll and the challenges in delivering humanitarian aid safely. Calls for adherence to international humanitarian law and the protection of civilians have intensified as the conflict persists.
