President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to participate in the 17th BRICS Summit, marking a significant step in Nigeria's engagement with the bloc as a newly designated partner country.
Ahead of the summit, President Tinubu held a bilateral meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The leaders discussed enhancing cooperation in key sectors such as agriculture, technology, oil and gas, energy, trade, mining, and industrial development. They also explored opportunities to improve air connectivity between Nigeria and Brazil to boost tourism and business exchanges.
President Tinubu emphasized Nigeria's commitment to reforms aimed at attracting investment in infrastructure, energy, and fertilizer production. He highlighted the potential for collaboration to increase agricultural productivity, citing Brazil's Embrapa as a model for agricultural research and innovation.
The BRICS Summit, themed “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance,” focuses on health, artificial intelligence, governance, and climate change. President Tinubu is expected to present Nigeria's reform agenda and investment opportunities in agriculture, solid minerals, healthcare, and alternative energy sectors.
