UK Grants Duty-Free or Reduced-Tariff Access to Over 3,000 Nigerian Products Including Cocoa and Cashew

In a major trade development, the *United Kingdom has officially announced that over 3,000 Nigerian products*, including *cocoa, cashew, sesame, and other key agricultural commodities*, will now enjoy *duty-free or reduced tariff access* into the UK market.
This move is part of the *UK’s Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS)*, a post-Brexit initiative designed to boost trade with developing nations by reducing trade barriers and simplifying export processes.

The UK government made the announcement on Friday, highlighting Nigeria as one of the key beneficiaries of the scheme, which covers a broad range of products. The goal is to *support sustainable development*, *enhance economic diversification*, and *stimulate local production and exports* in participating countries.

According to *British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos, Jonny Baxter*, “The DCTS is tailored to help growing economies like Nigeria’s to expand access to the UK market. It’s a win-win—UK consumers gain access to high-quality Nigerian products, while Nigerian businesses enjoy greater export opportunities.”

Among the products now eligible for duty-free or reduced tariff access are:

- *Cocoa beans and cocoa products*
- *Cashew nuts (raw and processed)*
- *Sesame seeds*
- *Ginger and turmeric*
- *Textiles and some manufactured goods*

The scheme is expected to *benefit thousands of Nigerian farmers, agribusinesses, and exporters*, potentially generating millions of pounds in export value annually. It also signals *stronger bilateral trade relations* between Nigeria and the UK, which has become increasingly important in the wake of post-Brexit trade realignments.

With Nigeria’s non-oil exports already on the rise, the DCTS offers a timely and impactful opportunity for further economic growth and global market integration.
