The political atmosphere in Ibadan witnessed a fresh spark as Oluwatobi Ogunbayo officially declared his ambition to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Ibadan Southwest/Ibadan Northwest Federal Constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The declaration, held on February 20 at Ajadi Street, Elewura Challenge, Ibadan, marked Ogunbayo’s formal entry into the race ahead of the 2027 general elections. His ambition, he explained, is driven by a commitment to purposeful representation aligned with the “Renewed Hope” agenda championed by Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The unveiling ceremony attracted party faithful, community leaders, youth representatives, and supporters from across Ibadanland, many of whom described the moment as the beginning of a new political movement within the constituency.
Speaking during the declaration, Ogunbayo emphasized that his decision to run for the Green Chamber of the National Assembly of Nigeria stems from a deep passion for grassroots development and community empowerment.
According to him, the people of Ibadan Southwest and Ibadan Northwest deserve vibrant representation capable of attracting federal opportunities, investments, and development projects to the constituency.
“Our people deserve responsive leadership that will prioritize their needs and bring meaningful federal presence to our communities,” Ogunbayo stated.
He outlined key areas that would form the backbone of his legislative agenda if elected. These include job creation initiatives, improved infrastructure, quality education, and stronger support systems for small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs), which he described as the backbone of local economic growth.
Ogunbayo stressed that youth empowerment would remain a major priority of his representation, noting that creating opportunities for young people is critical to sustainable development within the constituency.
During the event, the aspirant also reaffirmed his loyalty to the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, emphasizing that aligning with the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda would enable stronger collaboration between the executive and legislative arms of government.
He explained that such synergy is essential for ensuring that federal policies and development programs effectively reach the grassroots.
Beyond policy commitments, Ogunbayo revealed that his campaign would be people-centered and issue-driven, focusing heavily on consultation and engagement with stakeholders across the constituency.
He pledged to maintain open communication with traditional leaders, youth organizations, women groups, and community stakeholders to ensure that the needs of the people remain at the heart of his legislative priorities.
“This journey is about listening to the people and representing their interests effectively,” he said.
Supporters who attended the declaration described Ogunbayo’s entry into the race as a refreshing development in the political landscape of the Ibadan Southwest/Northwest Federal Constituency.
For the aspirant and his supporters, the declaration signals what they describe as the beginning of a new chapter of inclusive representation, grassroots development, and renewed hope for every household in the constituency as preparations gradually begin toward the 2027 general elections.
