Those Waiting for a Twist Won't Like This: APC Officially Files Sharafadeen Alli with INEC

APC Confirms Senator Sharafadeen Alli as Oyo Governorship Candidate, Ends Weeks of Speculation

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially uploaded the nomination details of Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli as its governorship candidate for the 2027 Oyo State governorship election, effectively ending weeks of uncertainty and speculation over the party's flagbearer.

The upload, completed through the party's official candidate nomination process in line with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable, represents a significant milestone in the APC's preparations for the 2027 general elections. Political observers believe the move confirms the national leadership's endorsement of Senator Alli and signals the party's determination to move beyond internal disagreements and focus on the forthcoming election.

Official Submission Brings Clarity

For several weeks, conflicting reports and political manoeuvring had fuelled speculation over who would ultimately emerge as the APC's governorship candidate in Oyo State. The official upload of Senator Alli's nomination details has now provided clarity, affirming him as the party's recognised candidate.

The development aligns with INEC's electoral timetable, which requires political parties to submit the details of their governorship and state assembly candidates through the commission's nomination portal before the stipulated deadline of August 8. The APC has been working nationwide to ensure compliance with the deadline while simultaneously addressing internal disputes in some state chapters.

Party insiders described the submission as the formal recognition of Senator Alli by the APC national leadership following extensive consultations with party stakeholders and reconciliation efforts aimed at strengthening unity within the Oyo chapter.

With the nomination process now concluded, attention is expected to shift towards campaign preparations, mobilisation of party members, and efforts to consolidate support across the state's 33 local government areas.

Senator Sharafadeen Alli's Political Background

Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli currently represents Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly and is widely regarded within the APC as one of the state's most experienced political figures.

A graduate of the University of Ibadan, Senator Alli has held several strategic public offices throughout his political career. His previous appointments include:

Former Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government.

Former Secretary to the Oyo State Government (SSG).

Former Chairman of Odu'a Investment Company Limited.

Serving Senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District.

Supporters within the APC describe him as a seasoned administrator with extensive experience in governance, public administration and grassroots politics. They also maintain that his long-standing involvement in Oyo politics has earned him considerable support across the Ibadan, Oke-Ogun, Ogbomoso, Ibarapa and Oyo geopolitical zones.

Renewed Focus on Party Unity

The confirmation of Senator Alli's candidacy comes amid renewed efforts by the APC leadership to foster unity within its Oyo State chapter following disagreements that trailed the governorship selection process.

Shortly before the confirmation, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with prominent Oyo APC leader and former governorship candidate, Senator Teslim Kolawole Folarin, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja as part of broader reconciliation efforts within the party.

According to reports, Senator Folarin has been encouraged to work with other party leaders and former aspirants to strengthen cohesion and rally support behind Senator Alli ahead of the 2027 governorship election. The reconciliation initiative is viewed as part of the APC's broader strategy to present a united front in its bid to reclaim Oyo State.

Looking Ahead

With Senator Sharafadeen Alli's nomination now formally submitted, the APC appears to have concluded one of the most significant stages of its pre-election preparations in Oyo State.

Political analysts believe the official confirmation removes uncertainty surrounding the party's governorship ticket and allows the APC to concentrate on policy messaging, grassroots mobilisation and campaign organisation ahead of the official commencement of electioneering activities.

As preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, attention will now focus on how effectively the party consolidates internal unity and positions itself to challenge for power in Oyo State.
