Nigerian social media commentator and activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has stirred another major online controversy after sharing his opinion on the ongoing rumours linking singer Chike to Sandra, the ex-wife of media personality Frank Edoho.
The controversy, which has continued to trend across Nigerian social media spaces, centers around allegations and speculations involving Chike and Sandra Edoho following the collapse of her marriage to Frank Edoho. Although no verified evidence has publicly confirmed the claims, the rumours have generated intense online conversations about celebrity reputation, marriage, loyalty, and public perception.
Reacting to the situation, VeryDarkMan argued that the biggest danger for Chike may not necessarily be the gossip itself, but the long-term damage the allegations could allegedly have on the singer’s image and career.
According to VDM, Chike’s brand has heavily benefited from his appeal among female fans, especially in the wedding industry where the singer reportedly earns massive fees for performances at high-profile ceremonies.
VDM stated that Chike is popularly regarded as “the boo to the booless,” but claimed the current rumours could create a new perception that may affect how married couples and families view him moving forward.
He alleged that many wealthy couples specifically request Chike for wedding performances because of his romantic music and strong female fan base. According to him, the singer allegedly charges between ₦50 million and ₦70 million per wedding appearance.
However, VDM argued that the ongoing controversy could allegedly discourage some married men from booking the singer for private family events due to fears, suspicions, or discomfort created by the online narrative.
The outspoken commentator said:
> “Image is currency. Character is part of your brand whether people like to admit it or not.”
His comments have since generated divided reactions online.
While some social media users agreed with his opinion, arguing that public perception plays a huge role in entertainment and endorsement deals, others accused him of unfairly fueling unverified rumours that could negatively impact innocent people.
The discussion has also expanded beyond celebrity gossip into a broader conversation about trust, male friendships, marriage boundaries, and reputation management in Nigerian society.
VDM further used the controversy to share a wider message directed at men who openly boast about relationships with married women.
According to him, many men may laugh publicly when hearing such stories, but privately lose respect and trust for individuals associated with such behavior.
He argued that actions involving betrayal of trust often shape how people are perceived in business, friendships, family circles, and professional relationships.
In his words, a man who lacks restraint in one aspect of life may also be viewed as unreliable in other areas.
The commentator added that reputational damage does not always arrive through public punishment or cancellation. Sometimes, he said, it appears quietly through lost opportunities, reduced trust, silent blacklisting, and exclusion from important circles.
The controversy has once again highlighted how quickly social media narratives can shape public opinion around celebrities, especially in Nigeria’s entertainment industry where personal branding often directly affects endorsements, bookings, and fan loyalty.
For artists like Chike, whose music largely revolves around themes of love, relationships, and emotional connection, online perception can significantly influence commercial value and audience reception.
Industry observers note that celebrity culture today goes beyond talent alone. Public image, personal conduct, and online narratives now play major roles in determining brand partnerships, sponsorship opportunities, and audience support.
At the time of filing this report, neither Chike nor Sandra Edoho had publicly addressed the specific allegations circulating online.
Meanwhile, the debate continues to dominate conversations across platforms, with many Nigerians warning against spreading unverified claims, while others insist that reputation remains one of the most valuable assets any public figure can protect.
As the controversy unfolds, one message from the situation continues resonating online: temporary actions can sometimes create permanent consequences, especially in an era where social media never forgets.
