Oyo APC 2027: Tension Mounts as Alli Meets Tinubu While Party Members Await Official Primary Results
Fresh political drama is unfolding within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State following the presentation of Senator Sharafadeen Alli to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s governorship candidate, despite the fact that the official results of the party’s governorship primaries are yet to be publicly announced.
The development has triggered widespread reactions among party supporters and political observers, with many questioning why Senator Alli was presented before the President when the APC has not officially declared the outcome of the governorship primary election.
According to reports, the meeting took place at President Tinubu’s residence in Lagos and was attended by several prominent APC stakeholders from Oyo State. The delegation was led by former Deputy Governor and Oyo APC Chairman, Chief Moses Adeyemo. Other notable figures present included former Deputy Governor Chief Iyiola Oladokun, former Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, Senator Ayoade Adeseun, Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, APC National Deputy Auditor Mr. Gbenga Olayemi, and Mr. Soji Adedeji.
During the visit, the leaders reportedly introduced Senator Sharafadeen Alli to President Tinubu as the APC governorship candidate for Oyo State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The delegation also presented senatorial candidates for the three senatorial districts in the state as part of efforts to showcase the party’s preparedness ahead of future elections. Those presented included Hon. Remi Oseni for Oyo South Senatorial District, Senator Yunus Akintunde for Oyo Central Senatorial District, and Chief (Mrs.) Hannah Ogunesan for Oyo North Senatorial District.
However, the political atmosphere within the Oyo APC remains far from calm.
While party sources confirmed that an official electoral process and internal party primary had taken place, the APC is yet to formally announce the results to members of the public. This has created confusion among supporters, especially following the public presentation of Senator Alli before President Tinubu.
Many party members have continued to ask critical questions regarding the situation: If the primaries have truly been conducted, when will the official results be announced? Who officially won the exercise? And why is the party projecting a candidate before releasing the final outcome of the primary election?
The controversy has become more intense because several influential political figures within the Oyo APC are reportedly not aligned with the alleged consensus arrangement surrounding Senator Alli.
Among the major figures frequently mentioned is Chief Adebayo Adelabu, the current Minister of Power and former APC governorship candidate in Oyo State. Adelabu remains one of the strongest political forces within the party and is still widely believed to have significant interest in the 2027 governorship race.
Political insiders suggest that Adelabu and some other prominent APC stakeholders did not subscribe to the purported consensus decision that appears to favor Senator Alli. As a result, many party members insist that it would be inaccurate to describe Alli as a universally accepted consensus candidate within the Oyo APC.
Observers believe the current situation reflects ongoing power negotiations and political alignments ahead of the 2027 governorship election. Some analysts have interpreted the meeting with President Tinubu as a strategic move by a faction of the party to strengthen Senator Alli’s political standing before the official declaration of results.
Others argue that the move may have been intended to demonstrate unity and reassure the Presidency that the Oyo APC is gradually rebuilding its structure after years of internal divisions and electoral setbacks.
Senator Sharafadeen Alli, who currently represents Oyo South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, remains one of the most influential figures in the APC in Oyo State. A former Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Alli has maintained a long-standing political presence within the party and continues to enjoy support from several party leaders and grassroots loyalists.
His supporters believe he possesses the political experience, loyalty, and statewide acceptance needed to reposition the APC and challenge the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the next governorship election.
Despite these endorsements, uncertainty still surrounds the final outcome of the APC governorship process in Oyo State as members continue to wait for the official announcement of the primary election results.
Until the APC leadership formally releases the outcome of the exercise, political observers believe debates over the party’s authentic governorship candidate are likely to continue across the state.
For now, the Oyo APC appears to be balancing between internal negotiations, strategic political positioning, and growing public pressure for transparency regarding the results of its governorship primaries.
