ADC Deregistration Controversy: Oyo Governorship Candidate Alagbe Gbemileke Eleniyan Urges Calm, Says Party Remains Strong and Legally Protected
The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, Alagbe Gbemileke Eleniyan, has called on party members and supporters across Nigeria to remain calm and steadfast following reports of a court ruling allegedly ordering the deregistration of the party.
In a public statement released amid growing concerns and widespread reactions on social media, Eleniyan said he had received numerous calls and messages from party faithful seeking clarification on reports suggesting that the ADC had been deregistered by a court order.
Addressing the development, the Oyo governorship hopeful emphasized that democracy is governed by the rule of law and that the Nigerian legal system provides established avenues for appeal, review, and redress whenever there are disagreements over judicial decisions.
According to him, party members should not panic over the reports but instead remain focused on the party’s mission and objectives. He further argued that the ruling in question was delivered contrary to an existing judgment of the Court of Appeal, raising legal questions that would inevitably be addressed through appropriate constitutional and judicial processes.
Eleniyan maintained that the suggestion that the African Democratic Congress could simply be eliminated from Nigeria’s political landscape does not align with the constitutional realities of the country's democratic system. He described ADC as a well-established political platform with a growing national presence and a track record of participation in electoral processes across the federation.

The ADC candidate assured members in Oyo State and beyond that the party’s leadership is actively engaged in addressing the matter and will pursue all available legal and constitutional remedies.
