Oyo Kidnap Drama Was No Hoax: Police Reveal How Criminal Syndicate Planned, Executed and Failed in Twin Boys Abduction
Those who dismissed the recent kidnapping incident in Oyo State as a staged event may need to reconsider their position following the detailed account released by the Oyo State Police Command.
The Command has provided a comprehensive breakdown of how a sophisticated kidnapping syndicate allegedly planned and executed the abduction of a woman and her twin sons, as well as the intelligence-led operation that led to their successful rescue.
Suspects and Their Alleged Roles
According to police investigations, the criminal network consisted of several individuals who played distinct roles in the operation.
Among them was Kelechi, who reportedly served as a lookout and security operative at the gang's hideout. During the police rescue operation, he allegedly engaged operatives in a gun battle and was neutralized alongside another unidentified gang member.
The second deceased suspect, whose identity has not yet been officially disclosed, was reportedly involved in guarding and holding the victims captive at the hideout before the confrontation with security operatives.
Police also arrested several suspects believed to be key members of the kidnapping syndicate.
Wale Abolalewa, popularly known as "Oloro," was identified as a major figure in the criminal network and was already on the police watchlist before his arrest. Investigators say his capture proved critical, providing intelligence that helped expose the gang's structure, operations, and hideout locations. He allegedly participated directly in both the planning and execution of the abduction.
Another suspect, Dare Oyedele, also known as "Solution," was identified as one of the gang's principal operational coordinators. Police allege that he played an active role in surveillance activities, strategic planning, and the eventual execution of the kidnapping. Both suspects are currently in custody and are reportedly assisting investigators with ongoing inquiries.
Two additional suspects were arrested for allegedly facilitating the gang's operations.
Semiu Ishola, aged 39, is accused of acting as an agent who arranged and facilitated access to the criminal hideout located within the Lado Community area of Ayegun, Ibadan.
Similarly, Adeyemi Ayobami, aged 35, allegedly helped secure and coordinate the hideout that was ultimately used to keep the victims in captivity.
How the Gang Planned the Abduction
Investigators revealed that the kidnapping was not a spontaneous crime but a carefully orchestrated operation.
Police findings indicate that members of the syndicate carried out extensive surveillance on the targeted family over a period of time. Their activities reportedly included monitoring daily routines, photographing vehicles associated with the family, studying school environments, and gathering intelligence on movement patterns.
Investigators further disclosed that the gang allegedly attempted to recruit an insider identified as Segun, a household staff member, in May 2026. The recruitment effort was believed to be part of a broader strategy to gain privileged access to information about the family before carrying out the operation.
After completing their surveillance, the suspects allegedly used an unregistered Toyota Camry vehicle to execute the abduction.
How Police Tracked and Rescued the Victims
The rescue operation began immediately after a distress report was received on June 3, 2026.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, reportedly ordered an intelligence-driven manhunt involving the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT), officers of the Oyo State Police Command, and other specialized tactical units.
Investigators combined crime scene analysis, surveillance techniques, intelligence gathering, and digital tracking methods to identify members of the gang and establish their movements.
The breakthrough came following the arrest of Wale Abolalewa ("Oloro"), whose interrogation reportedly led investigators to other suspects and ultimately to the gang's hideout in the Lado Community of Ayegun, Ibadan.
On June 6, 2026, at approximately 7:30 p.m., security operatives launched a coordinated raid on the location. During the operation, Kelechi allegedly opened fire on the advancing officers, prompting an exchange of gunfire. Police successfully neutralized two kidnappers while ensuring that the abducted woman and her twin sons remained unharmed.
Victims Rescued Safely
The victims were rescued without injury, placed under protective custody, and later reunited with their family members.
Security operatives recovered several exhibits during the operation, including three pump-action rifles, fourteen live cartridges, an ash-coloured unregistered Toyota Corolla allegedly used during the crime, criminal charms, a battle axe, a hammer, suspected hard drugs, and multiple face masks.
The Oyo State Police Command stated that investigations remain ongoing and that efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the syndicate who fled during the operation. Authorities believe some of the escaping suspects may have sustained gunshot injuries.
The Command has also appealed to members of the public, particularly healthcare providers, hospitals, clinics, and traditional treatment centres, to promptly report individuals presenting suspicious gunshot wounds or injuries that may be linked to the incident.
The detailed findings released by the police paint a picture of a highly organized criminal enterprise and reinforce the significance of intelligence-led policing in combating kidnapping and violent crime across Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole.
